Day 75

I Samuel 1-3

The period of the Judges of Israel has come to a close. The first three chapters of Samuel show that some of the people of Israel still participate in the worship that is prescribed in the law. Samuel's parents participate yearly in giving a sacrifice according to Samuel 1-3. Ultimately Hannah, Samuel's mother, prays for a son that she might give him to the Lord. She is granted this prayer in the form of Samuel. She keeps her word and dedicates Samuel to the Lord as Eli the priest's assistant. God then begins to speak to Samuel. Have you ever wondered what God's voice sounds like? There is an interesting phrase in this passage that says that Samuel had not heard the voice of the Lord yet in his life. Certainly, God had a plan for his life to communicate with him in this way. It is clear that God did not communicate with everyone this way. Yet, in today's time period we can know the Father's voice because of the sacrifice of the son and the presence of the Holy Spirit. If you have yet to hear the voice of God in your own life, pray that He would speak to you today.

Tomorrow's reading: I Samuel 4-8
