Day 61

Joshua 1-5

There are two main points from this section. The first is that God demonstrates how to have a smooth transition between a central figure in an organization and the next generation of leader. Moses has now died and Joshua is taking over. What an overwhelming task! Yet, in our readings over the last several weeks we have seen Joshua pop his head into the story many times. He was with Moses on the mountain, in the Tabernacle, and many other times. Mentoring is very important when one leader is passing on the mantle to another leader.

The second aspect of this reading today is that Joshua is given specific instructions to not look to the left or the right so as not to deviate from the instructions that God has given. He is also told to be strong and courageous. What awesome advice for Joshua, and what an awesome piece of advice for us. Stay focused on the cross and don't deviate from it!
