Judges 9-12
The period of the Judges continues with several interesting characters. One of the most tragic incidents is when Jephthah makes a vow to kill whatever comes out of his house first if God will give him victory. Unfortunately it was his one and only child, his daughter. To Jephthah's heartache he fulfilled his vow. We should not make silly vows to God to gain victory in our lives. To make a vow for a more pure lifestyle or to read the Bible more is great, but vows that have little to gain in our becoming more like Christ should not be made.
