Day 72

Judges 17-21

This is a tragic passage. We find that the people through just a few generations since the law was written have wondered far from God. As the people of Israel settled in the land they forgot about God and all that he had done for them. They had really forgotten about the greatness of God and had fallen into sin. Basically, they lost their way and stopped focusing on the guiding light of God in their lives and nation. The most overwhelming part of this passage is the very last verse of Judges "...all the people did whatever seemed right in their own eyes." If we are not careful as God's people today we can easily fall into this trap as well. We are raising a Biblically illiterate generation of people. If we do not increase the knowledge of the Bible as a whole then we risk doing whatever seems right in our own eyes. I am so glad you are on this journey of reading through the Bible this year. Stay focused on the message of following God.
