Day 79

I Samuel 16-19

We see in today's reading the emergence of David. Saul has disobeyed God and thus God has moved on to anoint the 2nd King of Israel who will be David. I love how God selects David who no human would have selected. God declares that He alone looks at the heart while everyone else looks at the outward appearance. Besides seeing the story of David and Goliath here in this reading, there is the clear hatred and jealousy of Saul for David. I think it is clear that if you are a leader of any organization you must be prepared for someone to come behind you that others may seem to love more than you. I heard a wise person say one day that no matter how good you are at what you do, there is always someone who can do it better. You see this everyday in sports where an old time all-star suddenly is replaced by a younger, sleeker, more powerful model. Transitions like this are tough. If you trust in the Lord then serve to your fullest capacity, and let Him take care of the transitions.

Tomorrow's reading: I Samuel 20-23
