Day 212

Isaiah 58-62

Isaiah 58 is a strong chapter that I think the church in America today needs to take a serious look at. The people were doing all the right religious actions. They were worshiping, fasting, and attending synagogue, but they were participating in oppressive actions the other days of the week. God did not accept their acts of religious rambling because of the actions in the rest of their lives. Secondly, he declares that if they really cared about serving God they would set the people free, feed the hungry, and give shelter to the homeless. I love how in chapter 61 we see the future ministry of the Messiah written about. Jesus quotes this passage when he begins his ministry. The declaration is that he comes to heal the sick, make the blind to see, and comfort the brokenhearted. Church this is what we should be all about!

Tomorrow's reading: Isaiah 63-66
