Day 274

Malachi 1-4

The Old Testament ends in Malachi with an incredible challenge and many insights into how God views mankind. The idle talk we often have about God is noticed by Him. The gentle slander against his name is noticed. The questions of why God did something a certain way either good or bad is noticed. The idea that the wicked seem to succeed and that many Christians throw away their faith because they don't see any punishment coming to those who treat God wickedly is answered by God by saying "just watch what happens to the wicked." Malachi is chalk full of admonitions for us today of how we should live before a holy God. He notices everything and even writes it down. (3:16)

This is the end of the Old Testament. It has been quite a journey already. We are a little behind and would have ended the Old Testament on September 30th. In history there is now 400 years of silence from God. Deafening silence. Then as we will read tomorrow, God breaks through the silence with a voice in the wilderness, John the Baptist!

Tomorrow's reading: Matthew 1-4
