II Kings 1-3
Elisha now takes over for Elijah and seems even more focused on his task as a follower of God. The nation of Israel is slipping further and further away from the God who had brought them into the land. They are worshiping other gods and not paying attention to the God of their forefathers. Have you noticed a clear absence of the law and the holidays lately in the readings. It is clear that the people had wondered away from the Word of God and forgotten to celebrate the holidays mandated by God (passover, shelters, atonement). This is just a good reminder to us today. If we do not stay close to God's Word we will wonder far from it.
